#107 – The desiring force of the living world

4 December 2024

Through his meditation, Danis Bois presents his philosophy with regards to the innter climate of peace. Step by step, he provides guidance to go deeper into this living philosophy of the Sensible, best grasped by a meditative state he considers most appropriate to explore the living world.

In the preceeding weeks, the emphasis was put on connecting with the silence, respecting our quota of peace and what Danis Bois calls the satellites of peace, namely calm, stability, solidity and tranquility. This meditation on the theme of ‘the desiring force of the living world’ brings us to explore another form of peace that is deeper and is connected with a powerful inner push: the inner movement.

By exploring the continuity of silence, motionlessness, presence, smiling and the inner movement, meditative practice gives us access to stability, as a source of inner peace that pervades simultaneously our mind and our body. A travers l’exploration de la continuité du silence, de l’immobilité, de la présence, du sourire, du mouvement interne, la pratique méditative donne accès à une stabilité, source de paix intérieure et qui concerne à la fois l’esprit et l’organisme.

Accessing this continuous flow of silence, attention, presence and motionlessness, of the slowness of the inner movement enables you to experience a moment of eternity within yourself, within your lifetime, within the temporality of your existence. The state of peace generated by this continuous, stable, solid and tranquil flow..

For Danis Bois, the art of meditating implies three types of action: factual ‘action’, ‘non-action’ which is about welcoming what is given in the immediate experience and ‘letting ourselves be moved’ by the inner movement. ‘Letting ourselves be moved’ requires that we perceive the presence of a dynamic force within, free from our will and to sustain an open attention, which is present to what arises in our unlimited field of consciousness. The inner movement then gives access to the sense of existence and to the desire to live, which is the essence of life and the driver of our existence as long as we make it our ally. .

The desire to live

The characteristics of the living world is that it is carried by a desire for life, a desire to survive. It is an inherent quality of life and this quality is found in plants, nature, and human nature.

Desire is the essence of life. When we can connect this desire, the peace that we feel is happy, joyous.

It is not boredom as is too often associated with a state of peace.

It is not detachment.

It is human warmth that opens us to others as it does to ourself.

Let yourself be moved by this movement, that carries your desire to live, your desire to change, your desire to be yourself.

What would a life be without desire?

I’m not talking of the desire that brings us to passion – sometimes destructive,  to dissatisfaction, frustration and addiction. This desire that is about lacking, this mimetic desire, this never satisfied desire.

I am talking about the desire to live, as the driver of our existence.

We have to cultivate this desire, this appetite for life that some philosophers call the “desiring force of being”, particularly Aristotle.

In the absence of this desire, we become less alive and this comes and damages this peace that expresses a nostalgia for a world that is bigger, more accomplished, a world that is more divine.

Is it not another way of being in peace with ourself, where we take the responsibility that is incumbent to all living beings to live fully being lucky to be alive.
